On November 7, Venezuela Day was celebrated at Expo 2020 Dubai, with special guest master Juvenal Ravelo, who personally led the participative art dynamics to complete the kinetic artwork Chromatic Modules 2020-2021 Homage to the Venezuelan jungle, on display at the Venezuela Pavilion.
Ravelo’s original work graces the Venezuela Pavilion, a space inspired by the collective dwelling of the Amazon The Shabono, and the legacy of the greatest Venezuelan masters of kinetic art.
The mural was almost entirely made, except for a fragment, specially designed for people to participate in painting.
During Venezuela National Day, visitors from all over the world will not only had the privilege of meeting one of the major exponents of Venezuelan kinetic art but they were also invited to participate in the artistic event under his direction.
It was a unique experience of artistic participation that took place during the Expo 2020 Dubai, thanks to this methodology of “Art of participation in the street” developed by the master Ravelo himself, throughout his more than 70 years of creative experience, with the aim of stimulating creativity and promoting aesthetic sensitivity in the community.
Venezuela began its participation in universal exhibitions in 1862 and for the first time had its own Pavilion at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889 –the same one in which the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated–, held on the centenary of the French Revolution.
Under the slogan “an honourable heritage, a promising future”, Venezuela participates with passion and commitment in this new universal exhibition, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the country’s magnificent geographic and cultural human heritage

JUVENAL RAVELO
Juvenal Ravelo was born in Caripito, Monagas state, in 1934, and is considered done of the major Venezuelan representatives of kinetic art.
He won the National Prize III International Art Festival of Cagne Sur-Mer, 1971, in France and the National Prize of Plastic Arts, 2008, in Venezuela
His career has been praised by the greatest exponents of kinetic art worldwide, such as Jesus Soto, who said that his emblematic work, the mural Avenida Libertador de Caracas “is one of the extraordinary Works of current kinetic art” and the great master Carlos Cruz, who said: “For the development of his work, slow and clearly disciplined, Ravelo is a value and point of reference in contemporary Venezuelan art”.
